The Caney Valley Speedway will host a fundraiser June 24 at the Speedway to help the family of murder victim and former race car driver Janie (Tygart) Haney.

According to organizers, Money from T-shirts sales will go toward Haney’s 2 sons. At that time, Haney’s pink and black number 13 car will be driven by Kinzer Edwards and an extra $13 will be added by fellow racer Matt Weitz for several finishers. Attendees will also stand during the 13th lap in memory of Haney.

The 42-year-old Tygart was killed May 27 by her husband, 44-year-old James Delbert Tygart, in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide.

Police believe James Tygart shot her before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities said one of Janie’s children, a 15-year-old son, was at home at the time of the shooting.

According to organizers, the shirts are $15 and will need to be paid for at the race in order for an order to be placed. The shirts will be distributed at a later date.

A helmet will also be passed around for donations to the effort.

Court records reveal at the time of Haney’s murder, James Tygart had pending assault charges from a Dec. 8 domestic assault on her. She had also had a protective order against the man, which was removed in December. Bail was set in that incident at $15,000 with the condition that James Tygart, have no contact with the victim or possess any firearms. He bonded out on Dec. 15.

The arrest also had been the catalyst for a protective order against James Tygart, but court records show that Janie Tygart requested that the order be removed on Dec. 22.

The case had been set to resume on the June 28 disposition docket.
